Title : Origin of sustainability - The nature's wonder of algae biotechnological role of algae in humanity

Abstract:

The widely used word “sustainability” has many connotations in the built environment. Definition from Oxford Dictionary: sustainability "the sustainability   of economic growth" avoidance of the depletion of natural resources "the pursuit of global environmental sustainability”. UN started the 17 SDGS; many facets of sustainability on Mother Earth have been conceptualised to help Humanity. Sustainability is imposed on the living. These human driven activities artificially incorporate sustainabilitygivingthe “start line” in 2016 to a “deadline” of 2030. The human race must learn from Nature since billion years ago when sustainability was and is part of creation. Understanding sustainability shall start from the most natural level of humanity. Sustainability is about life and what is the best life making & living example to exemplify this message on Sustainability, Survivability, Buildability and Liveability? It is The Nature's Wonder of Algae.

The writer has contributed on 7 UN SDGs in his profession covering back to nature's basics in FOOD, FEED, FUEL & FEAT from Algae as SDGs 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9 and 17. Algae has provide and still providing humanity - Life Evolving,  Involving, Giving and Sustaining with so much misconceptions, misgivings and misunderstandings! SDG 12 is new in this paper. Algae is the basis of life on Mother Earth and is in Enhancing Humanityon Health & Well Being. This  paper  also  exemplifies  and explores the biological role of algae in Humanity. Algae has sustainably demonstrated to all that our Mother Earthhasisahumble origin.

Biography:

Dr Liew is a principal consultant involved in professional engineering/ strategic management and master planning of infrastructural developments in oil & gas, chemicals, pharma, residential and agri-aquaculture projects. Notably, in 1996, Jurong Island masterplan was undertaken as consultant to Bechtel (USA) as well as several foreign industrial and agri-aquaculture developments.

He serves as mentor to National University of Singapore (NUS) on start-ups in frugal innovation including Nanyang Technological University (NTU) /IHLs/Schools internship programmes. He was Associate Lecturer for SIM-RMIT (Australia) on Construction Management continuously for 25 years since programme inception in 1996.
His passion in green and sustainable areas of frugal innovations include innovative constructions, environmental engineering, green energy from poultry waste, waste to worth, water & food resources, agri-aqua technologies etc. relating to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
Dr Liew's achievements in NUS/NTU and in Harvard University programme on CRISPR: Gene-Editing Applications interest him to mentor/lecture undergraduates to PhD students in applied natural sciences on water conservation, food foot print and sustainability at IHLs such as SIM/NUS/NTU/Polytechnics on theses/researches/start-ups of frugal innovations by tapping on the Nature’s Wonders of Algae in a bio-circular economy. Dr Liew provides mentorships/sponsorships to foreign universities in Malaysia, China, Indonesia and Philippines for Education & Entrepreneurships.

He researches and contributes papers on UN SDGs and has patents on super well point ground water dewatering and on bio-photo-reactor in propagation of Algae. He has undertaken frugal innovation solutions for startups, talked and published papers on 10 of the 17 SDGs on Sustainability, Survivability, Buildability and Livability. He collaborates with international universities on bio-technological products and has interests in the use of CRISPR on Algae for solving global wastes and hunger problems while advancing the frontiers even in finding new TCM cures for humanity.
He promotes and collaborates on the China-Asean cooperations with Guangxi University. Of the 10 SDGs one area of interests which he coined is Origin of Sustainability -

The Nature’s Wonders of Algae which covers back to nature's basics in FOOD, FEED, FUEL & FEAT for Humanity in improving health and wellbeing towards zero hunger for life on Mother Earth.
